about

"I love getting lost in the pure Bacchanalia of a good English festival, but returning to normal life can be challenging. "Shambala Mess" is about disconnection in a post-festival funk. I love the fire that our Brazilian drummer Xande throws on this track!"

lyrics

Shambala Mess – it’s all in my room
Shambala Mess – it’s all over my room – ow!

You went into the jungle – so I went into the jungle
And now I can’t find you, baby.

This paper plate – shows the way to our car
Tantalus rise – from the mud of Shangri-la

You went into the jungle – so I went into the jungle
And now I can’t find you, baby.
Deep deep in the jungle, far far in the jungle
And now I can’t find you, baby.

An old sofa cushion, a half-box of face paints
A blow-up flamingo, five days without constraints
Your screenplay is calling, glitter still in your hair
And all you can think about is going straight back there
Back to the silence, after all of that sound
And you open your laptop – and here comes the comedown
And deep down inside of you, Tantalus stirs
You’d thought that you’d solved it all – so where are the answers?

Ooooh – Shambala Mess!

Deep deep in the jungle, far far in the jungle
I know I can find you, baby.
Deep deep in the jungle, far far in the jungle
I know I can find you, baby.

about

Sugarcane London, UK

Sugarcane’s hybrid sound updates vintage samba and calypso for twenty-first century London. With one British parent and one from the Caribbean, it's not surprising Robin's music is a post-Colonial jumble. Acoustic backyard sambas meet French chansons. Bahian drumming melds with West Indian steel pan, an old drum machine, and a toy melodica. ... more
